Health & Fitness: What Does a Pulled Muscle Feel Like?

Last updated 1 year ago

Contrary to what many believe, a pulled muscle is not always obvious. Learning how to recognize the signs of a pulled muscle is essential to keep from injuring yourself during exercise or sports.

As this video explains, there are three grades of pulled muscles. In the first and mildest grade, your muscle may feel cramped or uncomfortable. It's a good idea to do some stretches to get it moving again. In the second grade, you will notice some bruising and swelling and feel moderate pain. In the third grade, you will feel extreme pain along with bruising and swelling. To decrease your chances of pulling a muscle, always warm up before activity and never try to lift more than your muscles can take.
